Hey guys, I recently got involved in this year's big Invisible Children project: The Rescue and I'm so stoked! I was wondering if anyone out there is going to be doing this too? I really hope so! If you don't know about Invisible Children or The Rescue you should definately check it out!
In case you're like me and can sometimes be too lazy to click links, I don't want you to miss out on this, so here:
Invisible Children:Invisible Children is an awesome organization founded by a couple of young guys who went to Africa on what they thought was going to be a fun vacation with the intent of having a good time and making some movies and instead ended up uncovering one of the world's most horrific on-going wars: a war that's been happening in Uganda for over 23 years and is now spreading to other parts of Africa. After many years of instability and contest between the Northern and the Southern areas of Uganda, an insurrection called "The Lord's Resistance Army" or LRA began to rebel against the government of Uganda, trying to overthrow the president. A man named Joseph Kony quickly rose to power and began the horrible chain of unthinkable deeds that has lead to a generation of young African children that are now being called the "Invisible Children". Stolen from their homes in the night by soldiers, brutally beaten and forced to watch horrific mutilations and killings of the ones they love, they are--right now--being forced to become child soldiers for the rebel army, living a day-to-day life of unimaginable terror, blood, violence and killing. So far the estimated number of these child soldiers, ranging anywhere in age from 5 or 6 to young adults is in the thousands and growing every day. Beyond that
millions of children and adults alike have been displaced from their homes and towns to flee the wrath of the LRA. The worst part: no one is doing anything to stop them. That's what the Invisible Children organization is trying to change which leads us to the second topic--"The Rescue".
The Rescue:Deciding that, despite their age and inexperience and seemingly lack of influence, they had to do something about this unseen horror, these three guys began the Invisible Children organization which has spread across the United States and is now going global to spread awareness and help people just like you and me rally their individual governments to stop pretending that these things don't exist and end the suffering of these innocent people by the LRA. For the past few years IC has been doing national rallies in big cities across the globe to bring people from every walk of life together to let people know what's going on through on huge, country-wide "abduction".
Basically volunteers from all over the US "abduct" themselves to meet with thousands of others and walk for miles like the displaced victims of the war to a meeting place where they spend the night beneath the stars like a million Ugandan children trying to escape abduction. The point? Wouldn't you ask questions if you saw thousands of men, women, children and teenagers walking through your street with sleeping bags slung over their shoulder?
That's the point--we may not be able to fly to Africa and stop Kony himself, but we can walk to let the people who can know what needs to happen. That's where the other part comes in: we as kids and young people (an adults too) might not have much real influence in global problems from where we are, but by an act as simple as writing a letter to a local congressman, movie star, influential figure, whatever--we
can actually do something. Millions of letters have gone out across the years and the United States government was moved to intervene a few years ago and has been searching for a way to end the violence and rescue these child soldiers through peace talks with the Rebels. But it's not that easy and it's definitely far,
far from over. Just as the people in government are constantly changing and moving about--so we need to be constantly regrouping in order to make sure that the current heads of our cities, states and countries, are not ignorant to these horrible things happening in our world.
The Rescue is this year's IC event, and it's gone global. Millions of people across the globe are signing up to abduct themselves and free the abducted by camping out with their friends, family, youth groups, sports teams, and a million other people for one night on April 25th and making signs, movies, posters, letters etc. to spread awareness and let our world leaders know that we're a generation who's not going to let these people be invisible in their time of need. If you want to be a part of this epic event,
please, let everyone you know about it and sign yourselves up. There's going to be a live announcement on March 25th by the IC organization leaders to let everyone know how this event is going to go down, what to bring, and where to meet in your nearest city location to take part in The Rescue. Not only will it be fun and worth while, but it'll be history in the making. Seriously.

Invisible Children: The RescueInvisible Children is more than just a one-time event organization though! If you can't make it to The Rescue or just aren't ready to do something like that yet--you can still get involved. As a non-profit organization they take donations and sell DVD packets, jewelry, t-shirts, other apparel all to raise money for the situation in Uganda. The donations go towards building schools and providing education and basic necessities for the children of Uganda and help rebuild the millions of lives that have been torn apart by the LRA rebels.
Post if you have comments, questions or just to say I'LL BE THERE!
